where to start.. . .
1997 2wd 2.4L 5sp a/c no power accesories
first off: i know its got to be here somewhere but i cant find a diagram of what fuse is what and which relay does which for my relay box 2 (underhood) on my 97 taco. i bought the truck second hand about 5 years ago with the cover missing and it hasnt been an issue until now - it doesnt rain here, ever. i found pics for a 98, but its different. i've checked all the links to service manuals and none show a diagram of the fuse placement inside the fuse box.

i swapped headlights to a plug-and-play HID kit about 4 years ago and recently the passenger side quit working. assuming it was the ballast, and unable to locate a quick replacement i decided to refit the stock lights while i worked on the HID. i see now that i'm not getting the power i should be as the stock passenger side is very dim. i havent hit it with a voltmeter yet - we're already above 100 degrees here so my window of opportunity to work on it is limited each day - but i thought i'd do a quick check of the fuses first only i dont know which ones to check. since the lights work there arent any blown fuses to replace, i'm thinking maybe its a burnt fuse or relay. i did help a coworker out with a jump-start right around the time this all started so maybe there was an odd surge?

anyway, if someone could help out with a diagram of the placement of fuses in the box or a pic of the missing cover, i would be immensely thankful.

UPDATES!
short story: it was a fuse.

long story: i didnt check the fuse first because i'm too damned smart. i figured it couldnt be a fuse because neither headlamp was completely out. i was getting 12 volts to one light and about 5 to the other which didnt make any sense and was chasing down a short for about an hour before i FINALLY pulled a fuse and nothing changed. so a new fuse went in and both lights are back to normal and i'm feeling like a total idiot for not doing the most obvious first step first.. . . what a dummy. BUT, now i can share with the group - hey! did you know when a fuse goes out to your headlight, instead of losing the light completely, your toyota will still give it a few watts of power to try to keep it on? so if your headlamp goes out completely, its a bulb. if it goes half way out, its a fuse.

Glad you got it resolved.

But - just for the record ...

There are actually two fuses - one for the left headlight, and one for the right one. They're marked on the fuse block diagram I posted earlier.

See attached wiring diagram.
